Ponza, Campania, Italy

Durring our walk around the dock area in Ponza we met a cab driver who also did tours. He told us
  • His name was Joe
  • He was from Brooklyn, NY
  • He came left NY to get away from the Mafia
  • He is friends with the owner of Fendi
  • He is friends with an Italian Air Force general who gave him a sword
By the end of the tour I didn't believe any of it except his name, and that was suspect. He did give us a good tour of the island, and we wouldn't have been able to see nearly as much of the island without doing a tour like that.  Ponza seemed very much to be a resort island for rich Italians, not much in the way of things to do.  I think our day there was nice, but I wouldn't have wanted much more time.

The island was a resort all the way back to Roman times.  These caves were part of a systems of bath the Romans built so that sea water would mix durring high tide to refresh the water in the baths.

This was part of a system of cisterns the Romans built to catch rainwater as a backup water source.  Glad I had a strobe down here.

Apparently building permits are very hard to come by on the island, so lots of the houses are "cave homes" where the natural caves on the island are build out as homes.  They're supposed really be something on the inside.

While this is badly overexposed, I had to put this one up.

Apparently this is a 12M Euro house.
