We hopped on a rib boat for a
quick spin around Sognefjord before taking us to a goat farm in Skjerdal. The fjord is really breathtaking. Sadly, Conor didn't see any of it as, true to form, he fell asleep as soon as the boat engine came on.

Getting suited up |
The real highlight of the trip was going to visit the
Skjerdal farm. This gets a bit confusing, the farm is near the village of Skerdal. The family who farms it has lived there for so long their last name is also Skjerdal, as are several other unrelated families in the area who all took the name of the village back in the day when they needed a family name.

This bridge will have an important part to play in the next few months |
Our guide for the afternoon was one of the daughters from the family, and the Skjerdals could not have been more gracious hosts. It was amazing to spend the afternoon with their goats and in their house talking about their lives and the places they liked. Conor loved the baby goats. They were very curious, gentle, and friendly. The played with him and let Conor pet them.

Conor want to take a picture to "remember the goat. she is very nice" |
The family made us an amazing dinner of goat everything. Aged goat cheese, fresh goat cheese, goat cheese pasta, goat salami,
brown cheese and a dozen other fantastic dishes. I think they thought we were exaggerating Conor's love of goat cheese, but when he polished off his plate, and the raw goat cheese they brought out, and the made that morning goat yogurt they took to him like a long lost son. The made him pancakes and Conor ate them with fresh blackberry jam until he was covered in blue.
Conor had become obsessed with trolls at this point. When he asked if they had any trolls the told him the story of the billy goats gruff and showed him a carved door with the story in panels. He was hooked. For the rest of the trip (and weeks after) he tells the story (with voices). On the way down he identified on of the bridges on the farm as the source of the story.
