Today was a 15 hour 41 minute trip from from DFW to Cardiff, Wales. AA50 DFW to LHR, the train to Paddington (no sign of the bear) and then Great Western rail to Cardiff Central. The Marriott turned out to be a great location, right next to Cardiff Central station and the Cardiff bus depot and only a 15 minute walk to either the bay or Cardiff Castle.
After checking in we headed to Cardiff Castle. The site has been occupied since 55 AD. First a Roman fort for the Second Legion, then a Welch and later Norman castle, finally reconstructed as a Victorian fantasy. We missed the Cheese festival by a week (tagline, a castle full of cheese!) We met a very cool owl who lives there and is trained to fly around and scare away pigeons and seagulls.
