This morning we set out to check something off my bucket list, a visit to Pompeii. I'm an unabashed Roman history nerd Pompeii is one of those places that doesn't disappoint in person. It's so easy to picture Romans walking through the street to the forum, buying wine and bread from the shops and living in a city that would look like any contemporary city. We only had a few hours, so we had to hit the highlights.

Standing in front of the house of
Lucius Caecilius Lucundus is something I've wanted to do since I first met him, Qunitus and Metella back in Latin class. Granted, I would have rather been there on volcano day so I could have met Doctor Who and Amy, but so it goes. The house is closed to the public, but you could walk up to the door.
There are all these dogs who have made Pompeii there home, I think drawn by the
Cave Canem mosaic. They feed and cared for by the people who run the site, but you can adopt one. I really wanted to, but I was concerned about the language barrier. They were really sweet puppies.
We really lucked out, there was almost no one at one of the most visited archaeological sites in world.
