This morning we set out bright (really dark) and early for Normandy to do a WWII tour. Our first stop was to
Pointe du Hoc, 3+ hours from Paris. It was a gun emplacement between Utah and Omaha beaches, most famous for the fact that after Ranges scaled almost impossible cliffs and defeated the well defended German garrison it turned out the guns they were trying to destroy had already been moved farther inland.
The landscape alone is incredible, you can clearly make out the craters from the intense shelling both on the ground and in overhead imagery.
