France, Day 9, Night

We concluded out whirlwind tour of Paris at the Eiffel tower. But first, we had to have steak frites before we left Paris.  We ran a few options we'd found online by the concierge and he really got excited when we showed him La Relais de l'Entrecote, so off we went.  The line was out the door, even in a cold Paris rain.  We almost got discouraged during the 45 minute wait, but it was well worth it once we got inside.  They serve exactly one thing, steak frites with an INSANE butter sauce.  This makes the process pretty easy, since there are no menus.  You choice is "cooked bloody or medium" and wine "fruity or oaky" (we ordered fruity and got red, not sure if oaky would have produced white or not.)

Andi and I held our place in line.  We'd just made it under the last awning when the rest of the gang joined us.

The staff told me I had to make sure I didn't accidentally take pictures of any other tables due to all the "VIPs" in there.  I didn't see DSK, and I don't think France has any other celebrities

The rest of the gang was a good sport and agreed to go to the Eifle tower, which everyone but Conor and I had seen. The original plan was to go to the Jules Verne restaurant at the top for desert.  We'd clearly made a reservation online and stated this.  When we showed up the maitre d' gave us a once over an said he "couldn't find our reservation."  So we produced an email confirming it, and once again we were turned away.  He was far an away the biggest jerk we met in France, and I wanted to fight it on principle, but cooler heads prevailed and we walked away.  Since it was late the lines to go up were short, even though only one lift was running, so up we went.  We failed to understand that while the lines going UP were short, the lines DOWN would be insane.  After almost 45 minutes in line the group split up with Andi, Marie and myself walking down from the 2nd level.  Not something I recommend.  It took Julie, Conor and Michael another 30 to get down.

Turns out it's brown not black

It's impossible to get good shots at the top level, there is a cage and the lights and crowds are insane.  The 1st level had some good opportunities

Every hour they set off strobes
