France, Day 4, Chateu Nuef

This morning we woke up still at anchor in Pont de'Ouche just as the weather started to warm up leaving a cool fog on the river.  He hopped in the van for a short drive to Chateu Neuf, which was the new castle when it was built in the 12th century.  Apparently the local lord wanted to split his land between his two sons, one in the originally family home and the other on the other side in the "new castle."  This allowed them to better control the old roman road from south France to Paris, now the A6.  The village surrounding it has been voted one of the most beautiful in France.

All of the statues and bones were taken during the French revolution.  The statues were found in gardens all over France. The originals are in a museum, these are copies.  The colors on the wall are original from the 12th-13th century and one of the few places in France they weren't painted over.
