Flam

At the end of the Flam railway, big shock, is the town of Flam.  And by the town of Flam I mean a hotel, two cafes, two playgrounds (more on this later) and a smattering of souvenirs shops.  But upon our arrival I'm not thinking about any of this.  The Fretheim hotel is just a few steps from the train station.  The garden was pretty, and the views from the harbor a few steps away.

The parks are going to play a big part in the next 72 hours of our lives. Partly because there is almost nothing else to do here and we're not quick enough with Conor to do all the outdoor hiking stuff and not old enough to be OK playing bridge at the hotel. Conor loved them.  It was really amazing to see him playing with all the kids, all of them speaking toddler versions of a dozen different languages.  I don't know it yet, but I'm going to spend a lot of time over the next 72 hours in the big barrel in the front of this train
