There are two popular ways of getting down, this train or a bike rental. Since Conor wasn't going to be able to do the bikes we opted for the train. I don't know if it's because I was sick and feeling pretty lousy after a 4 hour train ride from Oslo. or because I really had wanted to do the bikes, or it was the maddening dash of people trying to climb over each other to get a good seat on the train (gotta love Americans traveling) but I was underwhelmed by the trip. Despite all the accolades, the drop wasn't that steep (only 5.5%, nothing like Pikes Peak) and a lot of it was spent inside tunnels.

Flam Railway
For the second half of our journey to Flam we took the Flam railway from Myrdal to Flam. The train drops (or climbs I guess depending on your direction) 2,800 feet over 12 miles of track including a horseshoe turn.

About at third of the way down the track the train stops and at Kjosfossen waterfall. This was highlight of the trip for me. A 1300 foot waterfall is something else. Pictures were pretty hard to take, the mist was pretty intense. They kind of ruin the moment by doing this silly show where there pump music in and have women in red dresses dance. They're supposed to be hulders, creatures who lure men into the falls and appear of of the mist.
